Hello everybody! I have just returned from a week ago and to my surprise I found that growing on my big Brazilian pepper tree. A few months ago, I set up a twig with Tillandsia and Orchids right here, so it was watered through the hose several times a week, depending on temperature and humidity. Strangely enough, the week I left was a heat wave and I had no one to look after my plants to water them. So it's not that for some reason this area was particularly wet when it came out of nowhere. Of course, I hit it with a stick, and a day or two later, it looks like it's going to leak a bit and that's pretty disgusting. She also grew fast enough, to cover one of the leaves of the pepper tree, which can be seen in the photos. Will that blob take over my backyard and eat me if I do not take it out first? ;)

My questions are: what the hell is this thing? I assume that this is a fungus caused by the increase in humidity in this area (unable to withstand the previous week). Does it also affect the health of the tree or my surrounding epiphytes? It looks kinda neat and I'm all for natural things that do their natural business as long as it's not detrimental to what I have in my backyard.

There were no results on Google Search that matched the results I see, but I know that the appearance of mushrooms can be very different. So I thought I would go to those who are better educated in this area than me.
